Advisory and Warning for University Students and Faculty on Conduct During Jantar Mantar Protest

On Friday, the centrally funded Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issued a directive to its students and faculty, advising them against attending gatherings in or near Jantar Mantar, where the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is protesting to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over exam paper leaks.

The advisory emphasized, "All members of JNU’s epistemic community are urged to act responsibly and prioritize their personal safety. In line with the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India regarding public demonstrations, you are requested to avoid participating in or visiting gatherings at or around Jantar Mantar, New Delhi." It also cautioned students and faculty about potential legal and disciplinary consequences should they engage in the CJP protest.

Nevertheless, numerous JNU students and faculty members have denounced the university's advisory as "anti-democratic," asserting that they have the right to engage in activities that support social and educational causes.

INSPIRED QUINTETS

Univ that claimed thought was its aim,
With logic and bright sparks in game.
But "Silence!" they'd preach,
Beyond reason's reach,
A regressive and contradictory shame.

Univ, once logical grand,
Now silences a thoughtful band.
With views quite extreme,
It kills every dream,
And stifles minds across the land.
