Sanskrit aphorisms from scriptures that signify role of mother in life: Special on Mother's Day
India’s scriptures have been telling the glory of the
mother since ancient times. Mother's love, affection and compassion have been
described as ‘incomparable’.
Scriptures also tell that we need to cherish our birthplace
and feet of our mothers more than all our material comforts elsewhere.
The Sanskrit word for mother is Matri which in Hindi
means Poojniya or ‘worth worshipping’.
Here are a few one-liners in Sanskrit that glorify the
place of mothers in our life.

Sanskrit: जननी
जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गदपि गरीयसी I
Hindi: जननी और जन्मभूमि स्वर्ग
से भी बढ़कर है।
English: Mother and motherland are superior even to
heaven.
(2)
Sanskrit: माता
गुरूतरा भूमेः I
Hindi: माता
इस भूमि से कहीं अधिक
भारी होती हैं।
English: Mothers are heavier / more significant than this
land
(3)
Sanskrit: नास्ति मातृ समो गुरु I
Hindi: मां
से बढ़कर कोई गुरु नहीं है I
English: There is no guru better than mother.

Sanskrit: नास्ति
मातृसमा प्रिया I
Hindi: माता
के समान कोई प्रिय चीज नहीं है।
English: There is none as precious / dear as mother.
(5)
Sanskrit: कुपुत्रो
जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति
Hindi: पुत्र
कुपुत्र हो सकता है,
लेकिन माता कुमाता नहीं हो सकती I
Translation: A son can be a bad son, but mother can never
be a bad mother.

Hindi:
माता देवताओं से भी बढ़कर
