Kalnemi: A word in focus and a limerick
In Hindu mythology, Kalnemi is a Rakshasa sent by Ravana to kill Hanuman while fetching the Sanjeevani herb. He symbolizes deception, appearing as a saint to trick devotees. Purportedly, he represents hidden dangers and hypocrisy or deceit, to be beware of, informs a Google AI prompt.
Early this year, Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati described Kalanemi as a demon who wears the robe of a saint, saying, "Look here, the robe is of a saint, but cow slaughter is happening' in UP. Literal meaning of the world is ' the felly of the wheel of time.'
The word has gained currency in Indian politics since law makers are described as 'kalnemis' whose words and actions are at odds.
Kalnemi Limerick
Kalanemi, with a grin so sly,
Pretended good, beneath a lie.
With a smile and a wink,
Devout folk would think,
Then steal their trust, way up high.
