On Mahavir Jayanti Tread Pathways to Peace by Embracing Ahimsa, Truth, and Detachment

The Mahavir Jayanti festival, which honours the birth of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, is set to take place on March 31, 2026.

The Jain faith is based on the Karmic theory concerning the transgressions of the human soul. It is believed that thoughts or intentions, along with actions or deeds, are the two primary components of Jain karmic theory. Jains hold that malevolent intentions or bad feelings and thought lead to wrongful actions and their karmic consequences. Even gossiping about others is considered a bad deed with dire consequences.

According to Lord Mahavira, any act of violence committed through the body, mind, or speech is regarded as a negative deed, which sullies the soul, regardless of whether it is done deliberately or accidentally.

Jain Karmic Couplets

Unworthy acts, a binding chain,
Transgression's echo, endless pain.

Thought and deed, if dark and deep,
Obscure the soul, where shadows creep.

Violence, lies, and greedy hand,
Lust's dark stain upon the land.

Release the soul, from earthly tie,
Keep it pure, beneath the sky.
