Transcending Role Labels and Boundaries: Embracing Gender as a Sacred Expression of Self
India is supposed to be passing through the public discussion phase that surrounds the controversial Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026, which amends the 2019 Act by removing 'self-perceived gender identity' and 'restricting legal definitions'. The ruling party holds that the proposed bill would eliminate the provision allowing individuals to self-perceive or self-determine their gender identity by promoting 'medical gatekeeping' that requires certification and evaluation by medical boards and district authorities rather than personal autonomy.
However, the spirituality, as the hall mark of India, requires us to go beyond gender fluidity and permutation-combination in gender spectrum and totally avoid cisgender identity assigned at birth by external agencies to treat every one with same human rights or spiritual equity.
Gender Identity from Spiritual Lens: A Poem
Beyond the blend, the shifting, countless ways,
No gender roles, no birthright stamped and sealed.
Let go the mould, the boxes, gilded haze,
Where rigid lines have long since been revealed
Each soul equal, a universe untold,
Deserves the grace of liberty to bloom.
No pre-set role, no story to unfold
By outer hands, dispelling every gloom.
Let spirit's truth, in equal measure, shine,
Unburdened gender masks we're forced to wear.
In this pure light, a oneness we divine,
Where oneness thrives, and burdens we can share.
So let us see the person, pure and free,
And grant them freedom, eternally.
