 The Buddha's Message of Saga Dawa: A Poem

The fleshly wants, the senses' fleeting plea,

The mind that craves what cannot ever last,

These are the roots of all our misery,

The chains that bind us, holding us held fast.

Forget the tales of realms beyond the sky,

The soul's ascent, the divine's grand design,

The holy books, the prayers that we might cry,

And rites that promise blessings to align.

Turn inward now, where true battle is fought,

To cleanse mind of evils and selfish need.

Let these desires be thoroughly uncaught,

And sow instead the pure and gentle seed.

For when the mind is free from craving's hold,

Then peace will bloom, human life to unfold!
