Mayo College at Ajmer celebrates its 150-year old legacy with 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun' play by seniors

Peter Shaffer's Spanish play 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun'  was staged at the 150th Anniversary of the Mayo College Ajmer on 28th November, 2025. The play wasis a critique of colonial greed and the tragic clash of civilizations and beliefs.

The complex, philosophical and profound play depicted how the Spanish conquistadors, driven by avarice and a self-righteous sense of religious superiority, destroyed the complex and established Inca society.

The message of Peter Shaffer's Play 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun' in Decastich

Blind faith proclaimed, a righteous hand,
To rule a land they didn't understand.
Know, greed devours, and pride will break,
Leaving only silence in its wake.

But greed's dark hunger gnawed within,
A clash of worlds, where loss could win.
The conquered bled, the rulers fell,
In silent ruins, a bitter spell.

To learn and grow, to question why,
Or watch belief turn reason dry!
