Happy Vikram Samvat 2083 !
The Hindu New Year 2026 - Vikram Samvat 2083 - is set to commence on March 19, marked by Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. This day heralds the beginning of the nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival and features significant regional festivities like Gudi Padwa and Ugadi. It represents a time for fresh starts, prayers, blessings, good wishes, and sacred rituals.
Among Hindus, the essential rituals include rising early for holy baths, adorning homes with rangoli, raising the Gudi or flag inscribed with Aum, visiting temples, and sharing sweets.
According to age-old traditions, Nava Varsha marks the onset of the lunar year, often associated with spiritual renewal and the arrival of spring. Chaitra Navratri also begins on this day.
A prayer for the Hindu New Year emphasizes the pursuit of blessings for peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth, typically starting with Ganesh Vandana to eliminate obstacles. It encompasses universal prayers for joy, the illumination of knowledge over ignorance, and a heartfelt appeal to nurture love, compassion ,hope and harmony in the coming year.
A NEW YEAR PRAYER
Adorable Lord, so kind and free,
I bow my head, I pray to Thee.
New Year comes, a fresh, clean start,
A brand new mind, a loving heart.
May this year bring a joyful peace,
Where spirit blooms, and sorrows cease.
May every creature find its ease,
May health abound, bring inner peace.
May all see good in every way,
And suffering vanish, right away.
Let this year bring a blissful light,
Filled with spirit, pure and bright.
Lead us from what seems to be,
To truth and clear reality.
From mortal fears to life so grand,
Immortality, held in Your hand.
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantihi!
Peace, Peace, Peace eternally.!
