Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti Celebrated with ' Back to Vedas' Call
Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti was observed on February 12, 2026. He was a philosopher and social reformer from the 19th century who established the Arya Samaj in 1875. His life focused on bringing back Vedic values and advocating for a rational, casteless society along with education based on values.
The Arya Samaj is founded on key principles (Niyams) that serve as a moral guide for its followers, highlighting monotheism, the authority of the Vedas, and the importance of social service. These principles assert that God is the ultimate source of all knowledge and the creator of the universe, and that He alone deserves worship.
They also emphasize that the Vedas are the texts of true knowledge that should be read, taught, and listened to by all Aryas. Other principles stress the importance of accepting truth while rejecting falsehood, acting according to Dharma, working for the betterment of the world, and treating others with love, fairness, and justice.
Additionally, these principles advocate for eliminating ignorance and fostering knowledge, striving for universal progress and the well-being of others, and adhering to selfless social rules while preserving personal freedom.
Moreover, the Arya Samaj opposes idol worship, the caste system based on birth, and superstitious practices. It is recognized for its slogan "Back to the Vedas" and champions social reforms like women's education and the remarriage of widows.
