Fostering STEAM literacy through sound poems for kids: A short note and an example of pyramid poem on robot

 SHORT NOTE

For kids, simple and contextual poetry is created through sound devices or language arts such as alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme for rhythm and musicality. Use of such language art devices makes a poem more relevant, contextual, engaging and impactful.

Use of language arts adds musicality to the poem making it more enjoyable to read aloud.

After reciting the poem, flash cards and matching exercises can be used to reinforce the vocabulary. Visual symbol drawing can also be introduced for oracy and visual literacy skills.

EXAMPLE

Here is pyramid or alliteration poem on robot.

Poem on robot

Robot
Robust robot
Robust robot returns
Robust robot rightly returns
Robust robot rightly returns (to) robocup
