The CASTME Vice Chair (Awards), Kathleen Nugent, intimated that the project "Intervening to feminize senior school mathematics with STEAM and daily life connections" led by Dr Lalit Kishore, a resident educator in local community, at the Senior Secondary Girls Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Jaipur, India, has won the CASTME Commendation Award Certificate. The school is being run by Vidya Bharati that aims at 'providing quality education since 1952 and is committed to educating the young generation according to Indian values and culture.'

The feminist pedagogy based mathematics learning project was designed with nine girls of grade ten who reported to the schools after two-year shut-down of the school due to COVID-19 crisis. For 15 topics of grade ten mathematics course, the topic-readiness learning sheets were prepared which emphasised language and reading of mathematics, The learning sheets were meant to be transacted which had text and visual vocabulary building exercises, reading of formulas and equations, micro-poems on the topics and linkage to STEM application of the topics. For completing the learning sheets collaborative and group learning strategies were mobilized. The achievement motive of girls and confidence got enhanced to face the ensuing public exam which had suffered the setback due to the COVID crisis of two years.

It may be mentioned here that the award scheme aims at 'sharing best practice across the STEM disciplines and to demonstrate the importance of STEM to local environments, schools and communities'

The CASTME adds, "Awards are offered for educational projects, which address the social or human context of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
