The Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 20

Sanskrit Verse

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि न्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः ।

अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ॥ 2.20 ॥

Meaning: For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.

Emphasis:  We must have faith in our non-physical existence and firmly believe in the immortality of the soul which a central tenet of the scripture. 

English Couplets

1. No birth nor death can claim soul's eternal reign,
Soulfulness is within all, unmarked by joy or pain,

2. Unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval.
Not is slain when the body is slain, soul's unphysical .
