October 22-24 is time for a worth watching celestial event:  It’s Early Morning Mars and Moon Conjunction

~Lalit Kishore

From October 22 to 24, in the morning twilight, planet Mars and the Moon conjunction can be seen high in the southern sky.  If you love sky gazing, you can watch the moon approach and pass the planet Mars during early hours much before the sunrise by photographing the moon and the mars at about 4AM.

Today, on October 22, 2024, I observed the gibbous moon high in the south-southwest about 20° to Mars’ upper right.  However, on October 23 and 24, the moon will be brighter and high in the south-southeast nearly 7° to the upper right of Mars but less bright during the twilight period.

This morning, I tried to take a few pictures of the conjunction near my house to capture the event in the sky despite disturbing light-pollution of street lights. Though the picture are not good, however, it made me to gaze the conjunction watchfully and capture the event in my phone camera (see inset collage)
