Advantages of dual coded communication in classroom

~Lalit Inshore

For classroom teaching, dual coding is an instructional strategy that  makes of of uses both visual and text or verbal symbols to convey  the subject matter It makes learning active and effective for the students since the brain processes information more effectively when multiple senses get involved engaged simultaneously or communication is made multimodal

While interacting with the dual-coded information, the brain gets engaged with two interconnected systems for retaining information both textual or verbal and visual which makes it easier to recall and apply. It has been found that dual coded information often used by a skilled classroom  instructor by displaying textual information alongside visual symbols.

The inset display shows an example of dual coded information conveying that trees provide oxygen, shade and food.
