Schools must provide modular vocational exposure to hydroponic gardening to students


Hydroponics: 

Hydroponics is a gardening technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil which can be used by small farmers, hobbyists, school skilling projects and small commercial enterprises.

ABCs of Hydroponic  gardening :

A: Aggregate substrate is used as a growing medium that consists of things such as vermiculite, coconut coir, jute, or perlite in stead of soil

B:  Based on using watery nutrient solution in outdoor situation in sunlight but in case of an indoor situation, enough lighting should be provided

C: Convenient to grow are lettuce, herbs and plants in the Brassica family, such as mustards and kale as well as other leafy greens such as amaranth and chard

CBSE's SKILLING MODULE OPTIONS:

The Central Board of Secondary Education  (https://cbseacademic.nic.in/web_material/Curriculum24/SkillSubjects_Middle2023.pdf) has urged the schools to provide skilling experiences at middle school level in scores of areas including food-culnary, Food Preservation that could incorporate areas like forest gardening, hydroponic gardening, herbal gardening and organic gardening. The skilling course can be of 50 hours long with theory worth 15 hours and hands-on experiences or practical worth 35 hours.
